batmancam

I had this camera up when Toby was still around. Set it up again for Batman. Enjoy.
an observation
lol is no longer = laugh out loud
These are just some variations I’ve seen:
a. lol = hehe, haha, heh, hah, etc
b. lol… = equivalent to when the smile emotion is used passive aggressively — see here
LOL = when someone is genuinely loling
Weird how internet language evolves. Mind blowing, huh? Hah.
Money
I hate being owed money.
I also hate owing money.
Both stress me out for different reasons, but one stresses me out just as much as the other.
FYI freelance clients: please pay your contractor ON TIME. This is probably the biggest complaint from any freelancer/consultant — inconsistent payments. It is NOT fair to the person that provided you the service (on time, for that matter!). Come on, people. Sigh.
And the owing money thing is a given. No ones like to owe money. Though that hasn’t exactly been a problem for me lately.

Life, otherwise, is peachy though. New job has been a lot of fun. We’ve got a happy hour coming up on April 29th. Come if you can! RSVP here.
The big move is this weekend. Stressful but exciting!
Talk about flakey…
I am the worst blogger, seriously The medium just doesn’t exactly work for me, but I don’t want to abandon it either. Just trying to update this the best that I can. Sorry!
2010 has been quite the year so far, but it’s been a positive one nonetheless.
Everything I said in the last post, you know, about losing weight, reading, self-employment didn’t exactly pan out the way I wanted them to.
First, self-employment. Tried freelancing for a little bit. After a month, I realized it just wasn’t for me. Grateful for the experience and have met some wonderful people, but there are so many things wrong with the freelancer/consultant and client relationship. I like collaborating with someone 1 on 1 on a project. No more projects where the client just needs a one-off design and I’m just providing the service. So many things go wrong; there’s so much miscommunication. Designers get ripped off so often. But I’m glad I was able to experience that firsthand.
Anyway, I started doing some contract work with a non-profit organization called Housing Works. Basically I was just working on a single project — redesigning and doing the markup for one of their partnered campaign websites. It was a great experience; really happy with the end result. The site should be going live the next week or so.
After a month of actively looking and interviewing, I managed to find a new job! Woo! I actually start this Thursday at a company called Kikin. I’ll be coming on board as the new UI designer. Really excited!
Okay, second goal, reading. I actually didn’t have a lot time to do much reading, mainly because I was constantly searching and meeting with clients. Maybe instead of listening to music during my commute, I’ll read instead.
Third, losing weight. This actually has had the most successful outcome. Since I last blogged, I managed to lose 15 lbs! :)
April is going to be an exciting month because I’m also moving into a new place on 38th street and 8th ave. The apartment and the neighborhood is such a huge improvement over the current place. I’ll miss Harlem though, but not *that* much, haha.
Aside from the new job and new place, nothing much else going on in my life. Mark and I are thinking about taking a trip to San Francisco to go visit Mauvis for a weekend. Would love to do a small weekend trip with some friends when the weather warms up.
Had a joint birthday party with my friend, Sharon, over the weekend. So many people showed up, so much fun! Tasty food in Chinatown, champagne at the Bubble Lounge and late night karaoke in Ktown. One of the best birthdays I’ve had in a long, long time.
New beginnings
Alright, alright. This blog was dead for a few months, but I think I might be back. My Twitter usage took over, and that felt like enough “blogging.” I want to revive this thing and be committed to it, once again! Let’s see how long this lasts.
So what’s in the works?
New portfolio. Something brand-spankingly awesome, I hope.
Read. I want to get back into reading as a leisure enjoyment, but I won’t be going out, err, I mean browsing for new books anytime soon. I already have a few tucked away on my bookshelf that I need to actually open and read.
The obligatory “need to lose weight” goal. I’m only mentioning this one because it’s actually something I’ve been gradually trying to do the last few months, before 2010. I’ve made some minimal progress (-10 lbs!), just by eating healthy. I’d really like to get a good workout routine and really lose some weight. I’m actually surprisingly hopeful because I physically feel pretty good lately and I want to keep feeling this way.
Big career changes. I’m no longer working at Etsy and am now self-employed. It’s pretty scary, but you know, I’m actually excited. I think designers ideally would like to be self-employed and work for themselves. Of course, I’m still open to full-time opportunities; just needs to be the right one.
So big things and little things. All exciting, overwhelming, but positive. Will keep you all, literally, posted :)
Why? Because I believe life is for the living. I believe in taking risks and biting off more than you can chew. And also, people were yelling and I got confused about the rules.

Nonstop chatter, street food, train traveling, new and (revisiting) old explorations, sore feet, learning all the native greetings in each country — with amazing friends. And hopefully no scheming hookers this time.
Oct 16-31, 2009 in chronological order: Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, Nice, Marseilles, and back to Madrid.
This is the reason why I don’t blog about food. It is sort of sickening to see so many supposed food enthusiasts now. Just because the meal consists of high quality and seasonal ingredients, does not mean the meal automatically gets an A+! I’m glad shows like Top Chef and all the food shows on cable have brought gourmet cooking and eating to the mainstream, but now everyone (and their mother) is “foodie.” Whatevs.
Been listening to some Korean indie music; sounds a little strange, right? Fortunately, it actually exists. There’s not a whole lot, and some just sound like carbon copies of well known, already existing, indie bands, but I like that it exists. As much as I love kpop, it gets to be too much after awhile. Can only listen to 2NE1 for so long, yah know? Indieful ROK is a great resource. Below are some of my favs.
Broccoli, you too?‘s 이웃에 방해가 되지않는 선에서
Cheezstereo‘s Hello
Loveholic‘s Flowerpot. Sound a little familiar?
And here’s some absurdity, brought to you by Microsoft. Prepare for secondhand embarrassment.
Korean drama throwback
Anyone remember this song? Probably still one of my favorite Korean dramas.
Holga 135BC – trial #1
Out of 2 rolls, I only had about 20 worthy shots. Below are the best of the best. I’m hoping as I continue to shoot with the holga, I’ll get better at it. The rest are on my Flickr.
